Pomegranate Health Benefits | Studies Reveal

With many products on the market promoting pomegranate health benefits, it is known as the most powerful antioxidant among all fruits.

Pomegranate health benefits are often ignored or vastly overlooked! Considered to be a “superfood” by many reputable scientists, pomegranate health benefits far outweigh any side-effects a given individual may experience.

The Body Variables

First of all, as in every case involving prostate health, everyone’s body is different. Each person will experience different benefits more noticeable than others. What one body lacks, another may have an ample supply. Pomegranate health benefits, although many, may manifest in one man’s body differently than in another.

Furthermore, universal agreement of what pomegranate has to offer does not waver. Like the fact that pomegranate is the source of an assortment of highly potent antioxidants. Simply explained, an antioxidant is a molecule that inhibits oxidation of other molecules. This “oxidation” process is a chemical reaction that can produce free radicals, leading to a chain reaction that may cause cell damage. Antioxidants like vitamin C for example do a great job at terminating such a chain reaction.

These antioxidants inhibit abnormal platelet aggregation which is a major reason in reducing high blood pressure and preventing heart disease. In other words, pomegranate antioxidants act like aspirin. Aspirin keeps blood platelets from sticking together, forming dangerous blood clots.

Punicalagins

With many products on the market promoting the benefits of pomegranate like Prosterin, it’s known as the most powerful antioxidant among all fruits. Punicalagins are compounds that research has shown to help the cardiovascular system. It lowers blood pressure. In addition, it lowers cholesterol. And punicalagins have shown to increase the speed at which atherosclerosis melts away. Atherosclerosis is heart blockage plaque that causes hardening of the arteries. Punicalagins counter inflammation within the vascular system.

Why The Juice?

The outer peel of the pomegranate is where most of the fruit’s antioxidants live. However, inedible by both taste and digestive ability, these antioxidants release as the fruit is squeezed into juice. It’s only from the seeds and the juice it produces that yield the pomegranate health benefits mentioned. In fact, it is widely reported through various studies on the subject that there are more antioxidants in a single glass of pomegranate juice than you’ll get from blueberries, green tea, cranberries, acai berry juice, or red wine.

What’s The Research?

A July, 2006 issue of Clinical Cancer Research reported on a study performed at the Clark Urology Center under UCLA. A study that found pomegranate juice stabilizes PSA levels in men dealing with prostate cancer. Dr. Allan Pantuck, associate professor of urology and a Jonsson Cancer Center researcher, said:

“If we give pomegranate juice to older men who have been treated for prostate cancer, it may be possible for them to outlive their risk of dying from cancer” and “We may be able to prevent or delay the need for hormone treatment or chemotherapy, which bring harmful side effects.”

Another study,The University Of Maryland Medical Center, reported that pomegranate health benefits also encompass the possible prevention of cancer. The report goes on to say that there is no specific evidence of that. But in test tubes, extracts from pomegranate juice and oil “slow down reproduction of cancer cells and may hasten their death.” Furthermore, Osteoarthritis sufferers can also benefit from a kind of antioxidant called flavonol found in pomegranate juice. flavonol may act as an anti-inflammatory, blocking inflammation contributing to destroying cartilage.

Conclusion

In conclusion, prostate health is always a concern. The pomegranate should not be considered to be the best source for health benefits alone. Nor the exclusive option. Other supplements exist as well. Supplements like saw palmetto, for example, may produce different results. But why not play it safe! Adding the elements found in pomegranate juice may go a long way at living a more healthy life.
