This article highlighted the fact that students performed considerably below the defined baseline level of reading proficiency. A level required for an individual to function in everyday life on just a general level.
The article goes on to conclude that U.S. reading scores are more in line with countries like Slovenia and Latvia. A comparison that does not include countries like Canada. In Canada, students are more adept in both math and science. A result of higher reading proficiency levels.
